2009 CHURCH THEME: “Changing Lives, Empowering Communities, and Discovering Hope through the Spirit of Christ” (Luke 4:18)

Welcome to the Historic Congdon Street Baptist Church where a glad hand and a warm heart greet you in the worship of God. Since its inception in 1819, Congdon Street Baptist Church has been more than a place of religious worship. It has served as a community center, a school and refuge for its neighboring institutions of higher learning.

Known locally as "the friendly church on the hill", our doors have always been open to the community at large.

Our Pastor envisions one strong team working for Christ to win souls, minister to the poor, work in our community for peace and justice, and empower our youths so that they will face their future with hope.

Congdon Street Baptist Church circa 1875 In the community of faith we become the people of God and proclaim the acceptable message of salvation.

Rev. Dr. David D. Mitchell
Senior Pastor
